Navigating the Disney Skies: What You Need to Know About the Skyliner (Especially with its Upcoming Closure!)
Hey there, Disney Nerds! Your favorite source for all things magical is back with a crucial update for anyone planning a Walt Disney World vacation in early 2026. If you've ever soared above the trees with France and Ratatouille in the distance, or effortlessly glided from EPCOT to Hollywood Studios, you know the magic of the Disney Skyliner. But even magic needs a little tune-up now and then!
Heads Up, High Flyers! The Skyliner is Taking a Break
Mark your calendars and adjust your travel plans accordingly, because the Disney Skyliner will be undergoing its annual refurbishment from January 25th through January 31st, 2026.
What does this mean for your trip? If your stay falls within these dates and you're at a Skyliner resort (we'll get to those in a moment!), you'll be relying on good old Disney bus transportation to get to and from EPCOT and Hollywood Studios. While Disney's bus fleet is efficient, it’s certainly a different experience than the breezy gondola ride. Factor in extra travel time, especially during peak morning and evening hours, and plan your park days accordingly. Don't worry, we'll help you navigate the temporary change in the skies!
Soaring Through the Sunshine: A Look Back at the Disney Skyliner
Since its grand opening on September 29, 2019, the Disney Skyliner has revolutionized transportation for many Walt Disney World guests. Before its arrival, resort buses were the primary mode of transport for most, often leading to longer travel times and sometimes crowded conditions. The Skyliner changed the game, offering a scenic, smooth, and often faster alternative.
What exactly is the Disney Skyliner? Imagine a network of colorful, enclosed gondola cabins gracefully carrying guests high above the Disney property. It’s like a mini-monorail in the sky, connecting four resorts and two theme parks with efficiency and a touch of whimsy. Each cabin is adorned with beloved Disney characters, movie themes, or even classic park attractions, making every journey a photo opportunity.
Where Does the Skyliner Take You? Connecting Resorts and Parks
The Skyliner system features three main lines, all converging at the central Caribbean Beach Resort hub. From there, you can branch out to your desired destination.
The resorts connected by the Disney Skyliner are:
Disney's Pop Century Resort: A value resort celebrating pop culture through the decades.
Disney's Art of Animation Resort: Another value resort, bringing to life beloved animated films.
Disney's Caribbean Beach Resort: A moderate resort, serving as the central hub of the Skyliner.
Disney's Riviera Resort: A deluxe villa resort with European flair and stunning views.
And the parks it connects you to?
EPCOT: Specifically, the International Gateway entrance, placing you directly between the UK and France pavilions in World Showcase, perfect for Festival of the Arts!
Disney's Hollywood Studios: Dropping you off right near the park's main entrance, making it incredibly convenient for getting into the park faster than the walk from busses and the majority of the parking lot.
This strategic layout makes park hopping between EPCOT and Hollywood Studios incredibly easy, and gives guests at these resorts unparalleled access to two of Walt Disney World's most popular destinations.

As you can see, the central hub at Caribbean Beach Resort is where all the magic happens. From there, you can choose your connecting line to either EPCOT or Hollywood Studios, or return to your resort.
Why We Love the Skyliner (and Why You Will Too!)
Beyond the sheer convenience, there’s a lot to love about the Skyliner:
Views, Views, Views! The aerial perspective of Walt Disney World is simply breathtaking. You’ll spot iconic landmarks, hidden details, and enjoy unique photo opportunities.
A Relaxing Ride: Unlike a crowded bus, each gondola offers a private or semi-private experience. You can chat, relax, or simply soak in the views.
Efficiency: Under normal operating conditions, the Skyliner is often the fastest way to travel between its connected parks and resorts, especially for those who despise waiting in bus lines.
That Disney Magic: The themed cabins add an extra layer of fun to your journey!
Navigating Without the Skyliner: January 25-31, 2026
For those visiting during the refurbishment, here are a few tips:
Embrace the Buses: Disney buses will be your primary mode of transport. Be prepared for potentially longer waits and travel times.
Rope Drop Strategy: If you're heading to Hollywood Studios for Rise of the Resistance or Slinky Dog Dash, or EPCOT for Remy's Ratatouille Adventure, plan to arrive at the bus stop extra early.
Consider Ride Share: For early mornings or late nights, or simply if you're short on time, a Minnie Van or other ride-share service might be a worthwhile splurge.
Enjoy the Resort: Use the extra transit time to relax at your resort pool or explore its offerings.
The temporary closure is a small inconvenience for the continued smooth operation of this incredible system. We’ll be counting down the days until we can once again glide through the Disney skies!
