Meet-up Post #5, Uncorking the Magic: Why Cork Toons at Epcot are the Ultimate Souvenir!

If you're anything like me, you're always on the hunt for that perfect Disney souvenir, something unique, affordable, and that actually sparks a conversation when you get home. Forget another keychain or stuffed character (though, let's be honest, we love those too!).

During a visit to Epcot's World Showcase, especially around festival time, you might just stumble upon the most delightful and surprising piece of artistry: Cork Toons!

What is a Cork Toon?

Imagine a caricature artist, but instead of drawing your face on paper, they capture your likeness directly onto... a wine cork!

A Cork Toon is a custom-drawn caricature, typically of your face (or even your pet's!), rendered in miniature on the top of a standard wine bottle cork. The artists, often from the talented Artistic Talent Group, are incredibly fast, usually completing the charming portrait in just a few minutes.

This art form is rumored to have been born out of an artist's creative moment during the COVID-19 lockdown, proving that sometimes the best ideas start with a glass of wine and an empty cork!

Where Can You Find This Tiny Treasure?

Cork Toons are a special offering that most frequently pop-up during Epcot's seasonal events.

  • The Epcot International Food & Wine Festival is where they are most commonly found.

  • The kiosk is often located somewhere in the World Showcase, frequently between the Germany and Africa Pavilions. But this year it was located between Morocco and Japan.

Keep an eye out for a small, unique kiosk with an artist working quickly and a line of curious guests. It's a fun experience to watch as they transform a humble cork into a mini-masterpiece!

Why This Souvenir is the Best

1. It's Surprisingly Affordable

Compared to many other custom Disney items, a Cork Toon is a relatively inexpensive souvenir. You can choose a basic cork caricature or upgrade to a version that comes beautifully displayed in a miniature glass dome with a stand, making it a perfect little display piece. Around $20 (plus tax) for a single Cork Toon, which often includes the miniature clear dome and a stand for display.

2. It's Custom and Unique

Unlike mass-produced merchandise, your Cork Toon is one-of-a-kind. It's a portrait of you, done by a Disney-affiliated artist. It's a small, tangible memory of your day in the World Showcase that is guaranteed to make you smile.

3. Great for Gifts (Even Without the Subject!)

Forgot to grab a gift for your wine-loving friend? No problem! The artists can draw a Cork Toon from a photo. This means you can bring home a funny, personalized gift for friends and family who couldn't make the trip.

Cork Toon Tip!

If you see a long line, don't fret! Snap a clear, well-lit photo of yourself or the person you want drawn, and you can come back later. This allows you to continue enjoying the festival—maybe grab a bite and a beverage from the nearest Global Marketplace—while the artist works their magic!

The next time you are strolling through the World Showcase, be sure to keep an eye out for the Cork Toons kiosk. It’s an easy, charming, and highly unique way to literally uncork a little bit of Epcot's magic and take it home with you!
